Does Your Workspace Fit Your Culture? A Cross-Disciplinary Workshop
Abstract
Speakers
Yohan René, Interior Architecture Consultant has over 15 years of experience designing residential, hospitality and workplace environments across Australia and internationally. His work explores the relationship between spatial design, human behaviour and organisational culture, with a focus on human-centred environments that support wellbeing, connection and performance.
Amelia Twiss, Organisational Psychologist specialises in team performance, coaching psychology, wellbeing culture and psychometrics, working with clients across oil and gas, mining, professional services and government.
Aim
The spaces where we work shape how we perform, feel and behave. The people who design workplaces and those who study human behaviour rarely design together. This workshop equips participants with an integrated framework for analysing and designing workplaces that support cognitive performance, emotional regulation, team dynamics and organisational culture.
Workshop Plan
Introduction — speakers, agenda and outcomes
The Problem — where workspace design and organisational psychology fail to collaborate
The Evidence — how environments affect behaviour, cognition and wellbeing
The Audit — groups apply a Spatial-Psychological Audit Tool to a case study workplace, identifying gaps between what a space says and what the organisation intends
The Possibility — groups contribute meaningfully to a design brief
Close — insights and practical application
Outcomes
Participants will leave able to:
Articulate how spatial decisions influence psychological states and organisational behaviour
Apply a Spatial-Psychological Audit to a real or hypothetical workplace
Identify misalignments between stated culture and physical environment
Translate human needs into spatial design briefs
