Friction Stations, Go! The Human Systems Integration Personas Game.

Abstract

Friction Stations, Go! An HSI Game of Personas.
Speakers: Grace Kennedy (HSI SIG Chair) & Kate Moncrieff (Transport SIG Chair)
Aim: The aim of the workshop is to provide attendees with an understanding of what HSI looks like in practice through a problem-solving activity. This workshop will be interactive featuring a role-play scenario that steps attendees through a selection of HSI 'friction stations' whilst bringing together the views from different personas (from industry, research and government). The activities are intended to encourage curiosity in HSI, knowledge-sharing and exploration of crowd-sourced challenges and lessons learnt in practice. The scenario is based on a transport sector context, but attendees do not need to have experience in the transport industry.
All attendees are welcome; from early stage to expert HF or HSI practitioners
Workshop plan: The workshop will last for 1 hour comprised of four parts;
1) What is HSI? (talk) [10 mins]
2) Identifying Friction Areas (brainstorming) [10 mins]
3) Working through Friction (scenario role-play) [30 mins]
4) Overcoming Friction (reflections and sharing) [10 mins]
Outcomes:
1. Provide attendees a new understanding of HSI and the tensions faced by HSI practitioners through a fun activity
2. Bring together attendees from research, industry and government perspectives to tackle problems together
3. Build momentum and identify shared challenges for HSI SIG and Transport SIG
